where should users with temporary homedirs put their work?

Followups to athena-ws please. The athena-ws list is perfect for
discussing this kind of issue.
There's a problem with the README file that users get when their home
directory can't be attached.
we can't guarantee that the user's data will
be preserved so it's a false statement to
say that the users's files will be safe on
the PO servers.
IMHO, there isn't any place where we can guarantee their data will be
safe. They should back up any work on a floppy.
I think the README file could give other ways of temporarily preserving
work, but shouldn't leave the impression that it will be 100% "safe".
