What were you trying to do?
Use floppies on the SGI
What's wrong:
The SGIs were always flaky about automounting DOS floppies;
since release 8 however, it has never worked. One can't even
fall back on mtools; they cheerfully report:
"The mtool commands are not necessary
on the SGI's. You can find the stock
answer on using the floppy drive by
looking at the olc stock answers "
The stock answer is, of course, that they are automounted,
which doesn't work.
What should have happened:
The automounter on the SGI is a bad idea for two reasons;
it didn't work well before (and doesn't work at all right now)
and is inconsistent with every other athena machine; the mtools
build for SGI and should be the means of accessing floppies as on
every other machine, unless Athena commits to automounting on
*every* platform and making certain the automounter *works*.
