This occurs whenever someone fingers at the machine. Given the
pattern of fingering, I suspect the problem is that matisse (the olc
server) is fingering at the machine trying to determine whether
someone is logged in.
The reason this only started appearing recently, is that the SGI's
were only recently confugured to display any messages that are
syslogged. I believe the message is being logged at a level of
auth.err.
I actually noticed this a while ago, but for various reasons thought
it was the fault of a custom fingerd I'd installed on my SGI.
