What were you trying to do?
Use emacs (with rmail and rmail summary modes) via Tether.
What's wrong:
Twice recently, my emacs has hung, left my screen blank, and
sent me a series of bells. (I think it was mmmm.... in Morse
code, bit I don't remember for certain.) Partly-Cloudy was
hosing the dialup line with data from the emacs to the terminal
(a Linux virtual console).
The failure happened just now when I fg'd the process,
unsuspending it. The other time, I was attempting to jump
to a particular message with my rmail-summary window.
Both of these are things I have done successfully during the
same sessions as the failures.
I gcore'd the process both times. The first time was while
the failing emacs was suspended. The second time was while it
was beeping.
What should have happened:
Emacs should have kept working.
