See who logged in last by using "last"
What's wrong:
The logfile indicated that I was logged in remotely (via telnet)
from a computer when I wasn't. I tried rebooting to see if it made any
difference. I also telnetted from another machine...the logfile still
erroneously says that I am remotely logged in when I am not.
What should have happened:
The logfile should have indicated that I was not logged in
remotely and that my connection from a foreign machine had terminated
when I ended my telnet session two days ago.
