Yeah yeay yeah -- I know it's low priority. The "machtype" man page
says:
-N Print out the name of the base operating system; if
used with the "-v" flag, the version number of the OS
will be included as well. Current values for the name
of the base OS are "BSD", "Ultrix", and "AIX".
but I believe there are other current values:
