I'm not positive, but I suspect this is a problem with the special
rkinitd running on the dialups. (Wrong) Mike, if you feel like
looking into this it would be cool, but since ktelnet exists it
probably isn't a very high priority.

System name: carbonara
Type and version:	KN02ca 7.7L (1 update(s) to same version)
Display type:

What were you trying to do?
Obtain kerberos tickets for a remote athena host, to
be stored in the file /tmp/tk.jewell on that host.

 % /usr/athena/bin/rkinit puttanesca -f /tmp/tk.jewell
 Kerberos initialization (puttanesca)
 Password for jewell@ATHENA.MIT.EDU:
rkinit: Bad packet type while obtaining remote tickets:
read: expected to receive 1802268519 bytes, but only had room for 1029

What's wrong:
I received an unexpected response from the rkinit program, when
 using the -f option.

If I use rkinit without the -f option, it appears to work fine:
 % /usr/athena/bin/rkinit puttanesca
 Kerberos initialization (puttanesca)
 Password for jewell@ATHENA.MIT.EDU:

I first noticed this problem when attempting to obtain
tickets from my own machine, which is non-athena but
does have kerberos 4 intalled. I was able to repeat the probem
on a normal athena machine, as is demonstarated here.

What should have happened:
I was hoping to get tickets for the remote host, or else
perhaps a different type of error message.

Please describe any relevant documentation references:
 man kerberos
 man rkinit

As I am curious, I would appreciate it if I could be notified
as to the status of this problem. Am I doing something wrong?
Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround?

Thank you.

Darrin
