telnet problem

When I telnet to some sites, telnet sets my DISPLAY environmental variable when
it can. This usually results in DISPLAY being set to, say, opus:0.0; this is
perfectly fine in the mit.edu domain. However, this is ALSO what it sets if
I telnet to a remote site; on one such site, I ended up adding a hack to pipe
the value of DISPLAY through awk to add the .mit.edu portion.
