The behavior that was exibited on portnoy is clearly wrong.
If this is the Athena default, it should be fixed. This will become an
issue if someone tries to run krb5 servers (krloingd, ktelnetd) on an
Athena Sun.
It is the default for Athena Suns, and it *is* wrong. I think I've
mentioned this to a number of people in passing, but just to make sure
this gets logged in the right place, I'm cc'ing bugs and rel-eng about
it.
Basically, in /etc/hosts, we typically see the following on Solaris
machines:
#
# Internet host table
#
127.0.0.1 localhost
18.172.1.4 dcl
This is wrong. It should read:
#
# Internet host table
#
127.0.0.1 localhost
18.172.1.4 dcl.mit.edu dcl
It would be very good to make sure we can get this fixed in the next
release.

P.S. On a separate but related topic, before someone tries to use bind
4.9.3 on an Athena release, they should talk to me. I've recently
working on a patch to make sure that the named.mit/CACHE.MIT.EDU hack
that we use still works under 4.9.3. 4.9.3 also needs to be compiled
with the right options, or else Hesiod's ordered records won't work.
