i'm not done with you yet.....

ok, the deal is that i have an xterm executable on my account, and so i
need my account to be first on my path so that it gets run and not the
normal athena xterm

ok....now....if i have archdirs and bindirs (i assume you know what i
mean), and i login without customizations (to get my default path),
it's:
/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/l/o/lopes/sun4bin:/srvd/patch:/usr/athena/bin:/bin/athena:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/openwin/demo:/usr/bin:/usr/ucb:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/andrew/bin:.

now...since ~/sun4bin exists, the xterm that my shell finds first is the
correct one...the one on my account

but, if i delete ~/sun4bin, and keep the archdir, and login without
customizations, then my path is the SAME AS BEFORE, i.e.:
/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/l/o/lopes/sun4bin:/srvd/patch:/usr/athena/bin:/bin/athena:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/openwin/demo:/usr/bin:/usr/ucb:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/andrew/bin:.

but, since there IS NO ~/sun4bin, the shell can only find the default
athena xterm in my path, and so it runs that one

so...the problem is (i think) that /usr/athena/lib/init/cshrc, when
setting up your initial path, doesn't use the archdir system at
all...and since my account is on my path no matter what, add -f lopes
will not put in the archdir path entry....and so i have to keep the
bindirs around

so...either add -f needs to do what it currently doesn't, or
/usr/athena/lib/init/cshrc needs to use the new archdir system
(the latter seems to be much better of an idea)

i think it's funny that all the documentation says that bindirs are now
only supported for backwards compatability, yet they remain to be a
NECESSITY in a situation like this

so....did that make sense?
