This is a feature request for TechMail, TechMail-S, and MacDiscuss. (I'm
addressing it to macsiscuss@mit.edu, but I don't know the correct
address(es?) for TechMail and TechMail-S. Would someone please forward this
message to the correct address for the Macintosh TechMail programs? Thanks.)
There are two situations (that I know of) where a user can save a message
(or transaction) as a text file. One is when the user tries to open a
message (or transaction) that is bigger than 32K and the other is when the
user explicitly selects the "Save Text..." item from the File menu.
I would like to control the creator field of the TEXT file that is written
out in each case. (I would prefer that there be two preferences - one for
writing out a files larger than 32K, and another for files that are
explicitly written. If the field for explicitly written files is null,
explicitly written files should use the creator field set for files > 32K.)
It would be best if the user preferences for the creator field were
accessible from the "User Preferences..." item under the File menu. Failing
that, it be acceptable to have STR resources for each preference and let the
user set them with ResEdit. The current situation (where I use a binary
editor on the file and search for "????" and change it to the desired
creator field) is the least desirable.
