The standard chpobox client already doesn't allow you to set an address
which doesn't contain an "@" sign.

Yes, one of these days we should track down which client he used, and
fix that client.  Or we could even fix the server.  However, I don't
have the time to deal with this at the moment.

If someone from accounts or the JIC can, in the course of informing
chingte that his pobox has been fixed, ask him how he managed to screw
up his pobox, that would be a good thing.
