I believe you are seeing frame trying to access the Display PostScript/X system
(do man dps on a sun for more information).
I think you control this behaviour through .xresources such as Maker.useDPS:
which should be set to false.
i.e., the problem you are reporting is not actually with frame. it apparently
is trying to use dps/x to show you something.
what commands did you enter to cause this? I don't know frame, but it sounds
as if it should be trying to run xv or ghostscript or some other viewer, and
in your environment is trying to run dps/x instead and failing.
incidentally, fewer flames and more information will bring a faster response.
