The problem is that the X server on the Decstation (and on everything
else before X11R6) does not have a 16 point font.
There was a time when I would rummage around to find a font that would
correctly display as a 16 point font (Andy 14 (bigger) is Adobe 16 on
most displays). My most common hack would be to use Adobe times 12
100dpi on the 72 dpi screen, which would draw as an 16 point font there.
Across three releases of X and three releases of Andrew, and five
different hardware configurations, someone would undo my hack, or make
it impossible to do, and I would have to invent another way around the
problem. Forgive me, but I was getting to mean to my co-workers when I
would spend a week in font hell, so I quit trying to fix the problem.
Maybe with the alleged X font library work done in R6, the problem will
go away.
But I am not going to fix this one anymore.
