I saw your question this morning to -i help about the add in your
.environment file apparently not affecting your MANPATH. The
conclusion arrived at in that discussion was that it may have been due
to a momentary fileserver glitch of some kind. Actually, I think this
would be very unlikely if you did not see any other kind of delay or
error message.
It turns out that this is a bug in the new version of add, which was
not reported during testing. (In writing the new add, I hadn't noticed
an aspect of the behavior of the old add, so I did not mimic it.) I
expect this bug to be fixed in the field within the next two weeks.
