Woodshole gateway info has changed again....

On the decstations, this will require a change to rc.net.
Looks like the subnetting has changed. I suspect that the netmask might
even be wrong on his machine...

/etc/athena/rc.net needs to now know about the 128.128.28 subnet.
Perhaps someone can contact woodshole and find out all their subnets and
configure it as such.... Also, someone from ops should probably contact
them on what to do....

Question:
DECstation 3100 (menhaden, 128.128.28.250) had to be physically moved. This
required a new IP address, which in turn required that menhaden use a new
gateway in order to boot. I modified the gateway info in /etc/rc.net locally
(old incorrect gateway was 128.128.0.1; new correct gateway is 128.128.28.1).
However, when I rebooted (having missed a software update), an autoupdan auto update wiped my modified rc.net, putting back the incorrect gateway
info. I suspect this will be a problem anytime I reload software to my local
disk. This can best be avoided by modifying menhaden's "source" rc.net to
reflect the change in gateways. That way, downloads won't blow the mods to
the local rc.net. Can this be done? If not, I foresee many maintenance
headaches. Thanks.

Hmm... I can't figure out where rc.net is told to copy itself over
again, since /etc/athena/reactivate doesn't mention it. I guess the
assumption that gateways are .0.1 are built in to the system. We will
keep working on this...

there are two things you may do here. One, create a rc.local file with
the gateway setting in it, since this will get sourced after the rc.net
file.

Second, you can change the AUTOUPDATE variable in rc.conf to false if
you want to choose when you update. there is a script file called
update_ws which you can choose to run when you want to update, and could
change the script to remove the rc.net dependancy (beware though - if
AUTOUPDATE is true, it will run it's version of the script, not yours.)

Argh.... Your network configuration changed without anyone telling us.
The system software needs to know where the gateway is and determines it
based on your IP address... I will send a copy of this log to the
software developers, so that in the next release it will be fixed.
In the future, please advise you group that if network configuration is
changing, then we need to know.
