On an RS/6000:
athena% xv filename.ps

On a Maxine:
athena% xv filename.ps
sh: /afs/sipb/project/outland/bin/gs: not found
[1] Exit -1 xv rose.ps
gs has moved to /afs/athena.mit.edu/project/gnu/{$hosttype}bin/gs
Please fix xv so that it looks in the gnu filesystem.
