Hello Mike,
You have unfortunately discovered a "feature" of FrameMaker, namely that
you cannot print to a file if you do not specify a printer in the dialog
box. The Frame startup does attempt to set a reasonable default for a
printer, but cannot determine one for the dialup X machine. However, if
you put anything into the printer box, your print to a PS file will
succeed.
