Hello there.
You reported a problem with gopher on the RS/6000. There is a known bug in
the curses gopher client on the RS/6000 that causes the terminal to be
shifted into a different mode (one typically used to display foreign
characters). This makes the text unreadable.
Since gopher is maintained solely by volunteers who are also students
and also have other things that they must do, it's not completely clear
when this problem will be cleared up (the relevant person was out of
the country for the summer). Until then, you can use xgopher or gopher
on any platform other than the RS/6000, or you can use a World Wide Web
client, such as Mosaic or Lynx to access a gopher site. If you'd like
help doing that, ask OLC or send me mail.
