Hi! Thanks for your bug report. You reported:

> Unable to play; exact error message:

> audioplay: error opening /dev/audio: Permission denied
> audioconvert: Error writing to output file (stdout) (Broken pipe)
I went to the 4-167 cluster to investigate this, and found that a
number of the workstations there had been hacked so that /dev/audio
was not accessible. There is no longer a bug in their being
inaccessible. I did in fact fix that Wednesday night.
Undoubtedly, someone got a bit annoyed by people playing sounds. This
is not the approved way of showing one's annoyance, however. I'll look
into how well known the approved methods are, as well as what to do
about hacks on /dev/audio.
