More details on that last bug I reported for xterm; I'm sending this
to hotline too since it seems to be the one machine (w20-575-6) and it
persisted after rebooting.
My startup.X created an xterm, then started up an emacs. While the
emacs was starting, I tried creating an xterm from the initial xterm,
and succeeded, but then the emacs died with the error "emacs: could
not grant slave pty". Sometime during the above, my startup.X created
another xterm. But then after emacs died, I couldn't start up any
more xterms (segmentation fault, exit 139 (dash says exited with
signal 11, btw)) or emacs's ("could not grant slave pty"). Actually,
I just confirmed that emacs only dies if it tries to do M-x server-start
