Hi Evan,
I don't have a Linux box here, nor am I a Linux expert, but I suspect
that the problem you're experiencing has to do with the interaction
between the AutoCAD device driver and the Linux X server. The ADI
(Autodesk Device Interface) driver mentioned in the error message,
rcacadd, is the one used by both the DECstation and RS/6000 versions of
AutoCAD. It works fine with every type of display that I've tried here
but probably is just incompatable with the Linux server. You probably
need a special ADI driver, and since AutoCAD doesn't support Linux, I
have no idea where you could get one.
This probably won't be very helpful, but you could try running AutoCAD
with the null display driver which runs AutoCAD in the current shell.
You can't see any graphics, but you can enter any commands from the
command line. To use the null driver, just set the environment variable
ACADDISPLAY to NULL.
I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
