X screen saver strangeness...

I accidentally reset the date on my workstation to 1985, so I did the
following:
m11-116-11# date
Mon Apr 1 13:47:33 EST 1985
m11-116-11# gettime kerberos
Fri Apr 1 13:47:43 1988

Fri Apr 1 13:48:01 EST 1988

m11-116-11# ^C

after which the display seemed to go into a very high speed
screen-saver mode (only the background showed, and shifted around
about 2-4 times/second). it seemed like it might be trying to make up
for 3 years of missed background-shifting... this continued for a
minute or two, until i moved the mouse (blind) back into the window
and type ^C a few times and then "logout" (which didn't log me out,
because i wasn't in a login shell...); the return to normalcy may be
unrelated to these actions, of course...
