Sorry to be so slow responding to your bug report, especially when
the answer is so mundane.
Your hesiod information reports that you were using
/afs/sipb/project/tcsh/tcsh at the time. So what probably happened was
that your xterm could not get the shell it needed and died.
Sorry, but when a file server is down, if your shell is on it, there's
really very little that can be done.
