Hi! We recently got an OLC question from someone who reported that mwm
processes were hanging around on their DECstation even after the
people logged out. That sounded familiar, so I asked Chris VanHaren
about it, and here's what he said:
================================================================
The status of the "mwm not dying" bug is that I fixed it for the
VAXstations, since it happened most frequently on the VAX. It is due to
a race condition which didn't seem to occur as much on the faster
machines.
The bug isn't actually in mwm, but rather down in the Xt layer. It was
fixed in R5, so what I did in order to build the fixed mwm for the VAX
was to build that individual object file from R5, then link it into mwm
ahead of the R4 library.
Craig or Bruce should be able to handle doing the same for the DEC
and/or Sun.
The file from Xt is called NextEvent.c and is in src/mit/lib/Xt.
Alternatively, you guys could just install the 1.2.3 version of mwm,
since Motif 1.2 requires the use of R5... :-)
Good luck!
-C.
