Hi,
The user seth had the following problem which he report in OLC and no
solution could be found:
Topic: emacs
Question:
I often use emacs on an RS/6000 in no-windows mode. That is,
I start emacs -nw in an xterm or from a remote tty login. Frequently,
when I type say ^x, the emacs responds "Fatal Error (23)", and the emacs
will not accept commands. What causes this? Is there a fix? It's very
annoying.
Machine info:
Processor: IBM RS6000
Display : POWER_Gt1
Memory : 24576 K

Hi.
I'm not sure right off what is causing that. Can you get this to happen
without a .emacs file? Is it possible that its something in your
customizations?

I doubt it has anything to do with .emacs because
1) It ONLY happens on RS/6000
2) It happens in some windows or ttys, but not others

hmm... can you reproduce this behavior consistently, then? I'd suggest
logging in without any customizations, reproducing the error, and then,
if you can, send in a bug report about it.
Sorry for the delay in responding...

Yes. If it happens in one window or tty, it will ALWAYS happen
in that particular one. I have to start another to be able to use emacs.

hmm... I can't think of any reason why that would be happening.

I just tried reproducing with the -q option (emacs -nw -q). The -q
makes absolutely no difference.

Hi Seth....
I think that ^X is the default "quit" character, instead of ^\, which it
is on BSDish systems. The appropriate stty command might do the trick.

Doesn't seem to be the case:
speed 9600 baud; rows 24; columns 80;
intr = ^C; quit = ^\; erase = ^?; kill = ^U; eof = ^D; eol = ^@;

sorry, I have no clue, then. I'm guessing weird pty lossage, but I'm
not sure yet.
