What were you trying to do?
print two postscript documents (duplex on homer2)
What's wrong:
the first of the two documents was quadrupled
What should have happened:
one of each document should have been printed out
Please describe any relevant documentation references:
Subject: multiple printouts
Hi there. Yesterday i took advantage of the wonderful duplex printing
capabilities of the new Athena printers, sending a couple of PostScript
documents to homer2 over in building 66. A very bizarre thing happened,
however, in that one of the two documents was printed four times! I have
checked my command history (the only lpr command of the session was
lpr -Phomer2 *.ps) and the directory contents (the only files in the
directory are the two files in question). I verified that the file was
not somehow duplicated during ftp transfers, checking its size against
copies elsewhere.
This oddity has elicited several concerns. First, what could have
caused it? Does it happen often? If so, it could amount to a colossal
waste of paper! Even this one instance yielded about 240 pages (120 sheets)
of extra output, for which i am hard pressed to find constructive use (anybody
need a copy of the NOST FITS standard? I have one taker so far.). And, last
but not least, will this count toward my Athena print quota?
Thanks for looking into this, and also thanks for getting duplex
printers in the first place!
