Create a local homedir for myself and a local account on garfield,
in /home.
** What's wrong:

In particular, I'm not sure that the second- and third-from-last
are necessary, although the machine *is* running an automounter.
What it expects to mount I'm not sure.
** What should have happened:
- No type nfs entries in /etc/mnttab.
- No automounter running (unless someone can tell me something neat I
can do with it. :-)
