You could do a lot to cut down the confusion by changing the text in
the dialog. Currently it just says:
Please enter a ticket:
and has a box, Okay and Cancel buttons. If you made the dialog say:
Please enter the number of a ticket to add to the end
of the chain headed by the current ticket:
it would be much clearer. Better yet, replace the Okay button with
two buttons, one labeled "Add named ticket to end of current chain"
(same as the Okay button now), and one labeled "Add current ticket to
named chain" (new functionality which people seem to expect the dialog
to do).
