decmips 7.6F: Leftover processes

System name: w20-575-74
Type and version:	KN02ba 7.6F
Display type: PMAGB-BA

What were you trying to do?
I logged in and started to deal with e-mail. The dec was very
slow to respond to typing (e.g. the letters "forw" took at least ten
seconds to appear after I typed it.) Emacs took so long to come up
that I gave up and ran "ps -au" to see what was going on.

What's wrong:
There were a bunch of processes owned by "(null)", which
someone on the help instance told me meant they were left over from
another user. The names listed were one "ez", lots of "preview" with
two options (-o and another letter I forget) and one filename each,
and a bunch of "<exiting>" which weren't really processes, I guess,
but didn't go away until some of the real leftover processes were
killed. I logged in as root and killed the processes owned by (null).

What should have happened:
Presumably they should all have died when my predecessor
logged out. (I hope you fix this soon, because a lot of people I know
wouldn't know how to deal at all... they'd decide the dec was "bad"
and log in somewhere else.)

Please describe any relevant documentation references:
