Thanks for the info!
Yesterday I fooled around a lot with pageview.
I know what's special about the directory:

ROOT CAN'T READ IT.

Your txt directory is not system:anyuser rl. It's restricted. (Just
like most people's home directories are by default.

Uid 0, root, has no identity on the AFS server, so the access control
list doesn't allow it to read.

Apparently (and I have mail in to Sun to verify this) when you tell
pageview to ignore Structuring Comments, it hands off to the X/NeWS
server the task of reading the file!

Since the X server is started by root, it doesn't have access to your
restricted AFS directories. It fails to read. Pageview aborts.

I confirmed this by logging in on the console, and once I was logged in,
starting X. This gave X my uid instead of root. At that point, I could
successfully pageview things in restricted directories with the ignore
Structure Comments option enabled.

More NeWS as it breaks... :-)
