What were you trying to do?
Start up my normal xterms.
What's wrong:
/dev/pts/1 is broken. When an xterm tries to use this tty,
the window appears but no prompt appears. The xterm hangs.
The previous user of this workstation noticed this too.
This probably means that anyone using the default setup,
and hence having only one xterm, will lose.
'tty' returns something like '/dev/pts/2', instead of a
normal '/dev/ttyp2', which will cause problems for some
number of users greater than one. (But not me. :)
