What were you trying to do?
I was trying to display .dvi files, using xdvi.
What's wrong:
xdvi couldn't find the basic LaTeX fonts. A long list of fonts that couldn't
be found rolled by, and eventually, the program died without creating a
viewing window. This happened both with one of my files, and with the archived
document "Essential LaTeX on Athena," which I attempted to view from On-Line
Help.
What should have happened:
When I looked at both of these files yesterday, there was no problem with my
file. In viewing the help document, a few warning messages about fonts that
couldn't be found came up, but xdvi managed to substitute other fonts for
them and successfully display the document. The only relevant difference
between yesterday and today that I can think of is that today, I was working
on a workstation that is testing Athena release 7.6.
