Just to keep people up on what has been happening with Maple, here
is the current status.

The RS/6000 and Sun Solaris versions of Maple V release 2 are now
ready for use. From the athena% prompt, just type:

	add maple.new ; maple.new

to run the program. We now have Maple V release 2 for all the
Athena platforms except the VAXstation (and the soon-to-be-gone RT).
OLC consultants are particularly asked to try out the software, and
report any problems as soon as possible.

Any bug reports should be submitted to the "bugs" mailing list by
using the "sendbug" command. This was the case already for the older
version of Maple. I expect to make some changes in how Maple bugs are
processed in the future, but for now using sendbug and the bugs
mailing list is still the appropriate mechanism for providing me with
information to track problems effectively.

On August 9th, the "maple.new" locker and startup script will be
renamed to "maple" (and the existing "maple" will become "maple.old").
From this time, Maple V Release 2 will become the "officially"
supported version on Athena. The configuration of Dash will be
changed for the Sun, DECstation, and RS/6000 so that Maple V Release 2
can be started from the Dash:Numerical/Math menu. The VAXstation Dash
will continue to access the older version of the software.

I'll be working on an updated version of the "Maple on Athena" document
to reflect user-interface differences in Maple V Release 2, but no
completion date for the revisions has been fixed as yet.

If you are looking for further information about the status of the
"maple.new" locker, you should read the file /mit/maple.new/README.athena.
This file will contain an up-to-date summary of support and
maintenance information relevant to our installation of Maple V
Release 2.
