If you're remotely logged onto a private machine, and /etc/noremote is
set, and someone
who is not in /etc/passwd walks up to your tty and types:
login <their user name>
Know what happens?
/etc/passwd ends up read locked, and it's really tricky to track down what
is wrong as various services fail in extremely interesting ways.
This problem may be broader than the described case.
