When using xmh, I typically end a session by pressing "commit", "pack",
"close", in succession and then iconify the window while it executes the
processes. I occassionally get a message pop up in the middle of the
screen where the previous window that says "Rescanning inbox." Even
though the icon eventually goes away, this message stays on the screen
and is removed with an xrefresh. It seems as if xmh does not always
recognize when it is iconified or that the timing of the iconify happens
in between the events of the mapping of that message window as the rest
is in the process of iconification.
