I think the TEX man page is incorrect. It states the environment
variable for the search path for .tfm fonts is TEXTFM, but I needed
to use TEXFONTS to get things to work when I had a local directory
I wanted searched. TEXFONTS is what I've seen used elsewhere.
The man page I looked at was on a DECstation 3100.
