What's wrong:
instead of listing any mail messages, the line after "Running standard startup
activities" reads "pop: error during connect: Connection refused." Two
computers in the 20B219 cluster have just done this, and one professor in
linguistics just came in and complained that his computer was going bad also.
Also, another terminal reads: "panic: mchk / syncing disks" on the blank
startup screen.
What should have happened:
the line on my terminal should have said something like, You have incoming
mail (x bytes)
