Your server was down yesterday for a period of time. You can always
ask a consultant by using OLC or calling the consultant's hotline at
3-4435 about such problems.
> How can a user even tell what machine serves his or her files?
the command
hesinfo cthorman filsys
will yield a line like this:
NFS /mit/lockers/cthorman apollo w /mit/cthorman
This reads as follows: the type of filesystem (NFS), the pathname of
the actual directory ON THE SERVER (/mit/lockers/cthorman), the server
name (apollo, short for apollo.mit.edu), the mode to be used when
attaching the filesystem ("w" means attach the filesystem as a
writable filesystem), and /mit/cthorman is the name you know your
files by.
If you are having a problem using an Athena system, you should ask a
consultant first; you will most likely get an answer to your question
right then.
