I suspect something is wrong with the network configuration of the vax
3100's in the student center cluster. They are amazingly slow; I
watched vmstat during a compile, and most of the cpu time was spent in
the Kernel (50 to 80% cpu!) Ethernet echos? You might want to look
into this --- it's making that part of the cluster really empty.
