What were you trying to do?
preview ~fmmoore/Public/jacek.dvi (the TeX file contains \l and
\L), and uses the default latex font at the default size.
What's wrong:
when previewed using /usr/athena/bin/xdvi, and none of
XDVIFONTS, TEXFONTS, or XDVISIZES set, the \l character looks like an
English l with one pixel to its right (even when magnified, both with
Shrink 1 and the mouse buttons in Shrink 3). The \L character looks
like an English L.
What should have happened:
Both characters should have a short not-quite horizontal
crossbar through the [lL]; they do when printed, but not when previewed
with xdvi.
