I have complained about this problem before. The spew on the first page
of documents like the one you tried to preview is a zip inset of the
Athena Owl. Chad has informed me that zip is officially not supported
by CMU anymore, so this inset shouldn't be in any Athena documentation.
Even if olh started up an EZ previewer, which it doesn't---and you can't
even start the previwer from ezviewer---you wouldn't be able to see the
owl.
You may get some relief in the future by not using ezviewer with olh at
all. Try putting this line in your .Xresources file:
Olh.useViewers: False
This will cause OLH to run EZ documents through ez2ascii and display
them in a text widget, instead of invoking ezviewer. This is often
faster, and the result is often more readable. You can also get this
behavior by toggling the "Use External Viewers" option from the
"Options" menu in OLH, so you can always switch back and forth. You'll
still have to wade through the troff commands. And you can always use
the ascii viewer by typing "help -ascii"; this is, in general, much
faster than using the X interface. If you prefer the X interface, I
suppose it's a matter of taste; some people eat slaughtered carcasses
which have, in my opinion, all the appeal of a roadkill---I don't
understand that, either---to each his own.
I can't give you any more comfort than that. Can you say "design flaw?"
I knew you could. Want proof? Look at the LaTeX documentation done in
EZ. I rest my case.
