as a friend explained Domain/OS to me, all the network stuff is in the
kernel. he said the machine would be network aware even before it hit
single user mode. so as i understood how he said it, all its "RPC"
type stuff was in the kernel and not in user land, so it was very easy
to do network registry lookups even before the machine was in a
useable state.
