checksum so that truly paranoid could verify the validity of a file.
It's not necessary to be truly paranoid.  It's sufficient just to want to
verify that:
- you have the right patch file in your hands;
- you have the right version of the patchfile;
- you have an uncorrupted download.
... before wasting your time in case you haven't.
