PROBLEM: The lpspool subsystem has various security oriented defects.
PLATFORM: HP9000 Servers running HP-UX releases 10.XX and 11.XX,
DAMAGE: Users could increase privileges.
SOLUTION: Apply appropriate patches for each release:
For HP-UX 11.00: PHCO_22365,
HP-UX 10.20: PHCO_22364,
HP-UX 10.10: PHCO_22411,
HP-UX 10.01: PHCO_22410.
AVAILABILITY: The patches are available now.

A. Background
Hewlett-Packard Company has been notified of various vulnerabilities
in its lpspooler subsystem in the fileset PrinterMgmt.LP-SPOOL.
Several subsystem commands have memory buffer overflows and may
not behave correctly.
B. Fixing the problem:
Apply one of the patches listed below. Please make note
of necessary patch dependencies.
For HP-UX release 11.00: PHCO_22365,
HP-UX release 10.20: PHCO_22364,
HP-UX release 10.10: PHCO_22411,
HP-UX release 10.01: PHCO_22410.
C. To subscribe to automatically receive future NEW HP Security

Use your browser to get to the HP IT Resource Center page

Under the Maintenance and Support Menu (Electronic Support Center):

DAMAGE: Possible unauthorized root access.

A. Background
There are 2 problems with FTP Server (ftpd) on HP-UX.
1. ftpd handling of the SITE EXEC command that allows remote
users to gain root access. This is possible in the default
configuration of ftpd on HP-UX 11.0X ONLY.
2. ftpd does not properly format the parameters to the
setproctitle() function, allowing users to gain root access.
This problem applies to both 11.0X and 10.XX.
