Greg & company,
I appreciate your thoughtful concerns about the longer term supportability of the new GUI. You quoted me correctly when I felt it would be very unlikely to get new permanent headcount this fiscal year and also that "Athena will no longer be the centerpiece of academic computing in a few years" (important component, yes, "model" for many services, yes, centerpiece, no).
My only request is that you all look at both sides. What would it take to do this work properly? Over time, it needs to somehow merge (or interoperate at least) with the new environments that 1-1 envisages. I look forward to discussing this with you further when I'm back from Minnesota next week. As you know, Bill has been pushing this case for adequate resources strongly as well. Maybe there is a middle ground here we can all live with.
Cheers, Bob
