Project Name: Athena User Interface Project
Project Leader: Andrew Boardman
Report Date: 7 February 2001
Project URL: http://web.mit.edu/aui/notebook/

Accomplishments Past Period:
- Completed discovery process with an ITAG review on 29 January.
- Finished formal usability testing.
- Produced a definite work plan for the Publishing Services Bureau, who are
working on top-level aesthetics for us.
- Integrated core GNOME libraries, plus panel and window manager (sawfish),
  into Athena mainline source tree.
- Reviewed usability testing results and nailed down the top-level panel menus.

Goals for Next Period:
- Finish integrating Nautilus into Athena.
- Update source to GNOME 1.4b1, *assuming* it ships on schedule.
- Plan changes in documentation and training with Training and Publications.

Key Learnings:
- Stakeholders can see endless well-written textual justifications, but
what really gets then on board is actually *seeing* what we're working on.

Issues:
- The release schedule for GNOME 1.4 is right on the edge of "too late"
for integration with Athena 9.0; we should at least have a beta release
  to work with, though.
- It is unclear whether Nautilus, the GNOME file manager, will be too
large and slow for our use in its current incarnation.

Team Dynamics:
- OK.
