Henry:

I was going through old email, and it was unclear to me if anyone ever
got back to you on your suggestion to use Jabber as a Zephyr replacement.

That course of action was evaluated and the reason why it was deemed not
a good idea is documented in transaction 165 in the AUI discuss meeting:

	http://diswww.mit.edu/cgi-bin/disweb.cgi/menelaus/aui/165

That review inspired some ideas for a GTK-based Zephyr client.

There is, in fact, a student working on g-zephyr. It's not a documented
deliverable for the AUI project because it was agreed that an improved
zephyr client, as strongly desirable as it is, was not a drop dead
requirement for the success of the AUI project.

I am hopeful that g-zephyr will get finished and deployed either
coincident with, or shortly after the official roll-out of the required
AUI functionality in July of this year.

Thanks muchly for your suggestion. I apologize if nobody did get back
to you about it. (We're always getting ourselves swamped in coding and
debugging so we too often forget to communicate with the outside world.)

I hope you find the evaluation in the AUI discuss meeting a fair review
of the various alternatives.

I ALSO hope that the subset of all AUI possiblities that we DO manage to
ship end up being acceptable to you.
