(Have we had any other icons made for us besides the mail icon? Is
the terminal icon ours? I like that one, except that it uses 107
colors. Ack, the footprint uses 121 colors. Have people spent any
time worrying about 8-bit displays?)
I have several complaints about the mail icon as it is currently
displayed by the gtest account on the machine next to me:
* The icon background isn't quite the same color as the panel
background. (Aren't icons supposed to be semitransparent?)
* A great deal of the icon's visual amplitude is taken up by
the word "MAIL", which is redundant when the launcher name
is right below the icon. (Did we try the icon with and
without the "MAIL" in usability testing?)
* The icon is rather busy, what with the mailbox, the
envelope, the word "MAIL", and the green... I guess that's
scrub brush near the mail box post.
* The icon is displayed at 39x37, but it is a 48x48 GIF. As a
result, the icon comes out looking like a child's drawing.
This is a 1024x768 display with 24-bit color.
* The icon is a GIF; it should be a PNG. This should be
trivial to fix.
