gtest account woes

Ok, it turns out the whole problem is just due to gmc.
I fixed the startup sequence of gtest. Everything should work
normally (for whatever definition of normal we happen to have today)
except gmc. If you start gmc, your session will crash in about 20
seconds.
For some reason, gmc is being very picky about the environment it's
started in; I haven't been able to isolate the circumstances it will
and will not tolerate. If anyone can offer any leads, I'd be
appreciative.
I'm speculating it depends on the invocation and how and when panel
and sawfish were started, but I haven't proven that for certain. gmc
never stopped working for me, and somehow it's now working on the gu
account, but copying the presumed-relevant dotfiles to gtest didn't
help.
Ah, well, time to run home for B5 and some sleep.
